Unknown set fire to the Torah scrolls and the prayer books in the synagogue, built on the site of the Outpost Givat Sorek, near the settlement of karmøy Zuur (gush Etzion). The synagogue was built in memory of Gilad Sheere, Eagle Image and the Naftali Frenkel, who were abducted and murdered in June 2014. The Outpost is not far from the place where June 30, 2014 were found the bodies of kidnapped Teens.
The arson was committed on February 5, shortly after onset of Shabbos, however, information about the incident was published only the day before.
It is reported that the attackers put the scrolls and books in a pile, set them on fire, and then fled the scene of the crime. As a result of arson caused the damage to the scrolls, but the fire was quickly liquidated by the locals. The investigation had found the footprints that led in the direction of Hulhule. Security forces are searching for the arsonists.
Israeli President Reuven Rivlin said that «the attack on our Holy places heavy especially because it has been put in place, was founded in memory of the brutally murdered Gilad, Naftali and Eagle». According to the head of the state, «in the near future guilty of arson will be punished for what he did.»
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he «expects the international community to condemn this crime». According to the head of the government, «the desecration of the synagogue is an additional result of the ongoing incitement by the Palestinians».
The Minister of education and the head of the party «Bayt Yehudi» Naftali Bennett said that «this time the attackers crossed the border, and cannot be left unanswered».
