In Israel on a friendly visit to us aircraft carrier George H. W. Bush, the tenth and last ship of the class Nimitz, named after the 41st U.S. President George H. W. Bush.
Because of its size it was unable to dock at the port of Haifa and anchored four kilometres behind the line of breakwaters. On the aircraft carrier, rising 20 stories above sea level, there are 5 700 (2 500 of them serve in the US air force).
On Board the carrier, a length of 333 meters, placed 80 fighter jets and helicopters and other weapons designed to protect the ship. The carrier will remain in the coastal waters of Haifa until Wednesday, July 5.
Before the start of the intifada in 2000, the ships of the Sixth fleet regularly went to the Parking lot at the Haifa port. After an American destroyer was attacked by terrorists in the Indian ocean, the US Navy stopped calling at ports in Israel.
The current visit of an aircraft carrier in Israel has become the first in the last 17 years. However, the ships of the U.S. Sixth fleet, responsible for maintaining security in the Mediterranean «visited» Israel in 2007: in particular, while in the port of Haifa visited the destroyer USS Oscar Austin.
