The famous Opera singer, tenor, pedagogue, people’s artist of USSR, laureate of the national prize of Lithuania for culture and art, Virgilijus noreika, died March 3 in Vilnius, reports RIA Novosti with reference to the national television LRT. Virgilius the Noreika was 82 years old.
The Virgilijus noreika was born on 22 September 1935 in the city of šiauliai. In 1958 he completed his studies at the Conservatory, majoring in solo singing. From 1957-1975, he was a soloist in the Opera and ballet theatre of the Lithuanian SSR.
A noreika has performed on international stages: the Moscow (over 50 times), Berlin, Buenos Aires, Stockholm, Belgrade, Budapest, Bucharest, Warsaw, Prague, Bratislava, Kiev, Minsk, Tallinn, Riga, Chicago.
His program included compositions by M. I. Glinka, P. I. Tchaikovsky, S. Rachmaninoff, R. Schumann, performed tenor parts in the Symphony No. 9 by L. van Beethoven, «Requiem» by G. Verdi. Verdi, cantata by A. G. Arutiunian, Lithuanian and Russian folk songs, songs by Soviet composers.
A noreika has played more than 50 roles, and has given over 700 solo concerts.
