Consumption of alcohol by Russians in recent years has decreased by almost half. On Monday, September 11, said the Director of the Department of public health & communications Ministry of health of Russia Oleg Salagay.
«Today, alcohol consumption in Russia is approximately 10.3 liters per person. This is significantly less than even, say, 10 years ago, in 2008, us consumption was about 18 liters per person. Year by year, the alcohol consumption is reduced,» Salaga was quoted by RIA Novosti.
Also reduced the number of cases associated with alcohol diseases, e.g., alcoholic psychosis, the official said.
According to Salaga, the main purpose of combating alcoholism is to reduce the consumption of spirits, because their use is statistically associated with approximately 50% mortality in Russia.
According to the world health organization (who) for the year 2016, world leaders in alcohol consumption are the residents of Lithuania. Last year the average consumption of alcohol was 16 liters.
In second place Belarus, where each inhabitant on average about 15 liters of alcohol per year. The third – Latvia (about 13 liters).
Followed by Russia and Poland with an average of just over 12 litres per person.
