In the city of Samarra to 125 kilometers North of Baghdad on 96-m to year of life has died the Hajj Hussein Muhammad al-Samarrai. He was the last remaining survivor of an Iraqi veteran of the Arab-Israeli war of 1948 – the attempts of the Arabs to prevent the creation of Israel.
According to the website Middle East Monitor, a veteran, who during the war was 24 years old, he loved to share memories of his glorious past. According to him, the liberation of Palestine from the Jewish colonizers was the sacred duty of the Arab people.
According to the publication, a national hero, he was considered not only in Iraq but also in the Palestinian territories. Dedicated to his articles appeared often in the local media. He also teaches children and grandchildren the love of the Palestinian people.
He was overwhelmed by the quick defeat of the Iraqi army by the Americans in 2003, and also fact that the new power started the cooperation with the United States – including in the military sphere. According to him, in 1948 and in 1973 that it was impossible to even imagine.
