The Commission for the promotion of piety and the prevention of sins arrested the doctor located in the West of Saudi Arabia town Jeddah for the fact that he raised over his house a rainbow flag.
During interrogation the man admitted: he had no idea that the flag is a symbol of the LGBT community. The cloth he purchased via the Internet because his children liked the rainbow colors. At their request, the flag was hoisted on the three-meter flagpole on the roof. After questioning he was released on bail, pledging to remove the flag.
Homosexuality is considered in Saudi Arabia as a criminal offence. Punishment can vary from a fine to public flogging, imprisonment and chemical castration. Re «crime» can result in the death penalty.
In 2010, a London court convicted in the murder of Prince Saud Bin Abdulaziz Bin Nasser al-Saud, grandson of king Abdullah of Saudi Arabia. He killed his servant and lover Bandar Abdulaziz. In 2013 he was able to return home on the condition that he will spend in prison for at least 20 years.
