Saudi Arabia will soon be executed 14 Shiites convicted of terrorist activities. Their conviction caused outrage among rights activists, claiming that the executed will be the opposition activists.
Press Secretary of the Ministry of justice of the Kingdom of Mansur al-Cafari responded to these statements. According to him, the legal procedure was strictly followed, and the proceedings were impartial.
Al-Cafari added that the verdict was approved first by the court of cassation, and then the Supreme court.
14 Shiites were convicted of participating in anti-government riots, which in accordance with the laws of the Kingdom, is terrorist activity. Human rights activists claim that they were convicted based on confessions obtained under torture.
Note that in recent times human rights activists often compare the legal process in Saudi Arabia and «Islamic state». In their opinion, the courts of the Kingdom cannot be considered an independent branch of government.
