Serbian police arrested 79 people in the investigation of large-scale corruption cases, said local sources on December 26, the news Agency AP.
The Minister of internal Affairs Nebojsa Stefanovic said that the arrested faces charges in over 20 cases of corruption. The damage from their alleged activities, which ran from 2004, estimated at one hundred million euros.
The charges range from money laundering and abuse of position to forgery and bribery.
The interior Minister also reported that five more suspects are wanted, and 39 people already under investigation.
Right the Serbian government promises to actively fight corruption. The opposition claim that these arrests are directed against political opponents of the authorities.
