At the plenary session of Knesset was adopted in the first reading a draft law proposing the annual observance in Israel «the Day of repatriation». The bill was filed by Miki Zohar (Likud). Similar proposals were also made by the deputies of Robert Ilatov (NDI) and Abraham of Nagos (Likud).
Day of the immigrant is invited to note the Jewish calendar the 10th of the month Nisan. On this day there will be special plenary session of the Knesset and a meeting of the parliamentary Committee on Aliya and absorption. It is expected that this day will be celebrated in schools and in the IDF.
In the notes to the law States that the fixing of the day on the calendar is to remind about the importance of repatriation for the formation of Israel as a nation state in the past, the present and the future.
The bill was supported by 42 MPs, was filed against one vote.
