Knesset member Bezalel Smotrich («Bayt Yehudi») appealed to the head of the Commission for internal Affairs Deputy Yoav Kish (Likud), asking to hold urgent meeting on the issue of statements of geninspektora police Roni Alsaha in the program «Uvda» («Fact»).
«The situation in which the Prime Minister and the inspector-General of police in charge of including the investigation of cases involving the head of the government, public exchange of blows, is intolerable and causes serious damage to the confidence of the public in relation to law enforcement bodies», — the letter says Smotrich. «I am convinced that the Knesset, one of whose main tasks is to monitor the activities of the Executive power, can not sit idly by in the background of this unhealthy situation.»
Smotrich has demanded the convening of the Commission with the participation of representatives of the police, legal adviser to the government and the legal adviser of the Knesset.
Note that a similar demand was made by the head of the organizing Committee of the Knesset Miki Zohar («Likud»). In his opinion, the public speech of the inspector-General of police is a gross violation of ethical norms should be comprehensively studied.
In response to these demands, the MK Yoav Kish said: «it is Important that the discussion took place, and I largely share the demands of the deputies. As I understand it, the deputies from the parties of the left will accuse me of attacks on the police. So I have to say napadlo should not be, but parliamentary control should be.»
