Two policemen were killed and four were injured when patrol car hit a land mine laid by militants in El-Arish in the northeast Sinai Peninsula.
The victims were taken to a local hospital. The army and police are combing the area in search of terrorists.
The anti-terrorist operation in the Sinai was launched in the summer of 2013, after the overthrow of President-Islamist Mohammed Mursi. North-East of the Peninsula, bordering on Israel – the main area of activity of terrorists.
Four years of military action destroyed thousands of militants, the army and police had lost hundreds of people killed. However, notable progress with the Egyptian authorities could not be reached.
