On the night of 21 December, unknown persons desecrated in Uman grave of Rabbi Nachman, pouring the entrance to the burial complex of red paint and throwing in a synagogue a pig’s head, on which was carved a swastika.
The press service of Uman police told editors NEWSru.co.il that call to the police about what is happening in the burial complex was received at 2am on December 21. Arrived on the scene, the police found at the entrance of the complex traces of red paint and pig’s head. At the scene works investigative team. The culprits are yet to arrested.
The first news about the incident was published by the website The Yeshiva World. Then about the incident reported by the Israeli Ynet and NRG sites. The Ukrainian mass media, by posting a message about the incident, referring to the Israeli Russian-language site IzRus.
The first Israeli politicians to the incident said the Minister of internal Affairs of Israel, the leader of SHAS Aryeh Deri, who said that he was shocked by reports of horrific and barbaric desecration of the grave of Rabbi Nachman in Uman. He said he will send a letter to the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko with the requirement for a speedy investigation into this incident and to strengthen the protection of Jewish Holy places in Uman.
The leader of the «tnua», co-Chairman of the «Zionist camp» of Livni sent the media the following statement: «We have irreconcilable fight with any manifestations of anti-Semitism anywhere in the world. It is the responsibility of the leadership of the state of Israel. Our country will always stand in the forefront of the fight against this scourge».
The leader of the party «Yesh Atid» Yair Lapid addressed the morning of 21 December to Ukraine’s Ambassador in Israel, Gennady, Nadolenko and urged him to immediately investigate anti-Semitic outburst in Uman, which occurred in the premises of the synagogue at the tomb of Rabbi Nachman. «I am shocked anti-Semitic incident in Uman. What happened is unbelievable and is reminiscent of the worst days in the history of European Jewry. I expect your government to take action and I hope that Ukraine will make every effort to apprehend criminals desecrated the grave of Rabbi Nachman, and condemn them to the fullest extent. Many Jews make the pilgrimage to the grave of the Rabbi of Breslau and the Ukrainian government should provide adequate security for this place and its efforts to strengthen the protection of people so that such incidents do not happen», – noted in his address to the Ambassador of Ukraine Yair Lapid.
