European-Mediterranean seismological center reports that the epicenter was located 15 km East of Bodrum. The focus lies at a depth of 2 km.

The most destructive in recent years in Turkey there was an earthquake in Izmit (7.6 magnitude) in 1999 that killed more than 17 thousand people. In the same year in Judge earthquake (magnitude of 7.2) claimed the lives of nearly 900 people.
