12 Saudi soldiers were killed in the crash of a Blackhawk helicopter in the province of Marib, East of the Yemeni capital of Sana’a. Onboard the helicopter there were four officers and eight soldiers.
This was one of the most significant losses of a coalition in a single day since the beginning of the Yemeni conflict. Recall that the biggest loss of Saudi Arabia and its allies suffered in September 2015, when a ballistic missile fired by the militants exploded on a military base, killing more than 60 soldiers.
Saudi sources do not mention the cause of the crash, however, according to reports from Yemen, the helicopter was shot down by air defense fire. It is not excluded that we are talking about the so-called «friendly fire.»
