Iranian authorities executed all the adult men of one village in the southern region of the country for his involvement in drug smuggling, said shahindokht Mollaverdi, Vice-President of the Council for women’s Affairs and family, in an interview with news Agency «Mehr» this week. Her statement drew the attention of the Western media to reprint these words.
The village, the entire male population was executed, is located in the Iranian province of Sistan-Baluchestan, where Sunni live. Shahindokht Mollaverdi’t say what the name of the village, and not say exactly when the executions took place. However, she stressed the company’s responsibility for the maintenance of children of the executed men.
According to human rights organization Amnesty International, if in 2014 in Iran were executed 753 person, only for the first half of 2015 were carried 700 death sentences. Frequent executions of drug traffickers had led to the fact that human rights activists urged the UN Division for the fight against drug trafficking to freeze cooperation with Iran until the execution stops.
In 2008 in Iran have been registered around 2 million drug users, 250 thousand of them injected heroin intravenously. According to unofficial data provided by the Iranian opposition, the number of addicts reaches 11 million people, with 60% accounted for a teenager 14-16 years. About half of the detainees in the Iranian prisons are serving sentences for the crimes anyway connected with drugs.
