Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi appealed to NATO with a request to convince Turkey to immediately withdraw its troops from Northern Iraq.

On 6 December, the Turkish Ambassador in Baghdad was summoned to the Iraqi foreign Ministry where he was handed a note of protest against the entering of several hundred Turkish troops into North Iraq. In the protest note stated that Baghdad views this as a hostile action.
The Turkish authorities claim that it is about a routine event – a change of instructors at the training base, located close to Mosul. There are training Kurdish militias. Because close to the positions of the «Islamic state», the operation is performed accompanied by armored vehicles.
According to Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, a base was established at the request of the Iraqi government shortly after the Islamic state captured Mosul – the largest city in the North of the country. «It has trained more than 2,000 militia», — he said.
