The U.S. Department of state supported the proposal of the Ministry of defence about the supply of units of the Kurdish self-defense in Iraq arms worth $ 295. The transaction must be approved by both houses of Congress.
The weapons get two infantry brigade «Peshmerga» and two artillery battalions, designed to provide them with fire support. They will report to the Ministry of defense of the Kurdish Autonomous region.
It is also reported that delivery of equipment will require deployment to Iraq an additional military contingent. U.S. troops will train Kurdish militias in the use of weapons.
At the moment in Iraq there are about 4,000 American troops. Most of them deployed in the Mosul area, providing support to Iraqi units and Shiite militias, leading the fighting for the city.
