Israel and the European Union came to an agreement on the resumption of contacts on a political settlement in the middle East, said on Sunday, February 14, the radio station «Sieves Beth» with reference to acting head of the national security Council major-General Yaakov Nagel. He said that under the agreement the parties undertook to refrain from unilateral initiatives.
Says the same of Barack Ravid in the newspaper «Haaretz». Ravid clarifies that the paragraph refers to the EU’s refusal to support the so-called French initiative on the settlement, keeping the negotiations run by the middle East Quartet (US, EU, Russia, UN).
Jacob Nagel was also informed that in the agreement it is that the marking of goods made in Judea and Samaria, «is not a reflection of Europe’s position on the issue of borders between Israel and a future Palestinian state would be established through bilateral negotiations».
The Declaration will be discussed and that the European Union categorically opposes any form of boycott of Israel, including against the actions of the organization of the BDS.
The crisis in relations between Israel and the European Union emerged after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is also the foreign Minister, ordered the Foreign Ministry to reconsider the issue of cooperation with the EU in all that relates to the settlement of the middle East conflict.
The reason for this step was the decision of the EU on labeling Israeli goods produced beyond the so-called «green line».
Shlomo Cesana reports in the newspaper «Israel and Yom» that the crisis was resolved through prolonged negotiations that led senior officials of the Foreign Ministry headed by the General Director of the Ministry of Dori Gold with EU representatives. Over the weekend Netanyahu spoke with the high Commissioner on foreign Affairs of the European Union Frederica Mogherini, and she invited him to a meeting in Brussels, writes Cesena.
Barack Ravid adds that the final text of the Declaration will be formulated with participation of the head of the PNA Mahmoud Abbas. It is not planned to include any new diplomatic initiative.
