The Israeli state defense concern «Aviation industry» (TAA, IAI) and the Chinese state concern «Aviation industry» (AVIC) are in talks to jointly develop new civil aircraft.
As «kalkalist», we are talking about small aircraft business class, designed for short and medium flights.
Information about the fact of negotiations was published in the records of the Commission on appointments of government officials, who considered the candidacy of Yair Shamir as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the TAA.
The Commission eventually rejected the candidacy of Shamir, despite pressure from the defence Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, and the negotiations with the Chinese have become one of the major arguments against the appointment.
In the case of appointment to the post Shamir would be in a state of conflict of interests in this transaction and would not have the right to do it, despite the fact that the contract, if it is signed, will become an important part of the work of the civil Department of the concern.
