On 20 November, American prison must be freed Jonathan Pollard (61), condemned for espionage in favour of Israel. He had been detained for thirty years. He still was not allowed to leave the country after liberation.
Under the terms of the release he will live in the new York area for at least five years. For travel abroad to any country he needs special permission. Rabbi Pesach Lerner, a longtime friend of Pollard, also said that he has to wear the tracker that fixes its location, and stay at home during certain hours. Besides, Pollard is forbidden to use the Internet, Lerner told the AP. The Rabbi said that due to such strict restrictive measures it seems that the authorities hope that Pollard violated the conditions for exemption, they will return him back to jail.
Advocates of Pollard Elliot Lauer and Jacques Semmelman said he found housing and work in new York, but did not lead the details.
Israeli publication reported, meanwhile, that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had asked officials not to make a big hype around the release of Jonathan Pollard. It was reported earlier that Netanyahu had asked the us authorities to allow Pollard to leave to Israel. In Jerusalem, fear that excessive attention to Pollard these days could hamper efforts to grant him permission to leave.
Jonathan Pollard, a former intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy, began working at «the Mossad» in 1981. In 1985, against him started the investigation. Wanting to avoid arrest, Pollard and his wife came to Israeli Embassy, but the doors were closed, and FBI agents arrested him right at the mission of Israel. Pollard was sentenced to life imprisonment. He has been in prison for 30 years.
Once in 1997, Benjamin Netanyahu, who occupied then a post of the head of the government of Israel admitted that Pollard was working on the «Mossad», Israeli leaders did not leave attempts to achieve from the American leadership of its release.
