The Russian newspaper «Kommersant» published an article entitled «a Political settlement is not a matter of technique», in which it is reported that Russia may soon start to reduce the number of aircraft and helicopters in Syria.
The authors Ivan Safronov and Alexander Djordjevic, citing its own sources say that the Russian authorities are considering the option of withdrawal from Syria of its forces and means. «According to the defense Ministry of the Russian Federation, the government forces of Bashar al-Assad control about 95% of the territory of the Republic and for the final offensive against the Islamists such a large-scale Russian support is not required. If the plan is implemented, Syria will remain contingent needed to protect objects in Hamima and Tartous, military police and military advisers», – says the publication.
Sources of «Kommersant» claim that a mixed group can be reduced, but the air defense system, covering the Russian objects in the Republic will remain. The main task will be the transition to a political settlement of the crisis.
«Kommersant» reminds that on October 16 at a meeting with Israeli defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, the Minister of defence RF Sergei Shoigu said that the operation in Syria «nearing the end».
We note that recently it was reported about the plans for the withdrawal of Lebanese «Hezbollah» from Syria, who fought in this country on the side of the Assad regime and who acted as an ally of the Russian military.
