Pardoned by President of Azerbaijan blogger Alexander Lapshin, a citizen of Russia and Israel, released from custody, but is unlikely to be deported from Azerbaijan on Tuesday, September 12, told RIA Novosti lawyer of the blogger Eduard Chernin.
«Lapshin released. But he is unlikely to be deported from Azerbaijan on Tuesday… 80% of the surface today will not be deported from Azerbaijan. After lunch it will be clear,» said the lawyer.
Recall that on 11 September the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has pardoned Alexander Lapshin, who in July was sentenced to three years in prison for the visiting of Nagorno Karabakh. On the official website of the President of Azerbaijan was published the following text: «Order of the Azerbaijan President on Amnesty by A. Lapshin. In accordance with paragraph 22 of article 109 of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, I hereby resolve: I. to Release Alexander V. Lapshin, a citizen of the state of Israel, 1976, was sentenced by the Baku court of grave crimes on 20 July 2017 to prison. II. This order shall come into force from the day of its signing. Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Baku, 11 September 2017».
Assistant to the President for social-political Affairs Ali Hasanov said that shortly before the pardon Lapshin in prison attempted suicide and is currently undergoing treatment.
His friend soon after wrote on his page in Facebook: «He’s fine, actually, health is not threatened. In the next few days will fly from Baku».
The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Israel issued the following statement: «We welcome the decision of the President of Azerbaijan to pardon Mr Lapshin, who throughout the period of detention and imprisonment was accompanied by the staff of the Embassy of Israel. Glad to see it soon in Israel. We will accompany him throughout the return process».
The verdict of the Baku court against Lapshin entered into force 14 Aug 2017. Steps were taken to extradite him to Israel. The possibility of the filing of the petition and his extradition to Russia, but he chose to pay with a request for extradition to the authorities of Israel, home to his family.

Blogger Alexander Lapshin (1976) was detained in Minsk on the night of December 15, 2016. The reason for the arrest was the request of Azerbaijani authorities, who had previously announced his international search for the violation of the law «On state border» and the migration code. As reported by Azerbaijani media, this was due to the visits of A. Lapshin in Nagorno-Karabakh. His name was included by the Baku authorities in the «black list» in 2011. However, in June 2015, as reported by Azerbaijani media, Lapshin entered Azerbaijan through Georgia on the Ukrainian passport.
The Israeli foreign Ministry and the Russian foreign Ministry tried unsuccessfully to prevent his extradition to Azerbaijan. Knesset member Ksenia Svetlova («Zionist camp») demanded that the government take more active steps aimed at the release of the Israeli citizen who served in combat units of the IDF.
7 Feb Alexander Lapshin was a special flight delivered from Minsk to Baku. The extradition was carried out shortly after the Supreme court of Belarus rejected the appeal Lapshin.
