Lavrov: from 1 January will be suspended a visa-free regime with Turkey

The Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov said that from 1 January 2016 will be suspended a visa-free regime for Turkish citizens. He said this at the talks with Syrian foreign Minister Walid Mwalimu.

Sergei Lavrov described a very real threat from Turkey, reports RIA «Novosti». For what period of time this measure is introduced, is unclear. Visa-free regime between the two countries entered into force in 2011.

November 24, fighter from the Turkish air force has shot down a Russian su-24 bomber. One of the pilots died, the other survived. This incident provoked a serious crisis in bilateral relations.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the situation at a meeting in Paris where they’re going to participate in the international conference on climate change. Moscow has not yet responded to this request.
