Russia will not join Treaty banning nuclear weapons (the NPT by), Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov at the meeting of the UN Security Council on the prohibition of nuclear weapons, held on Thursday, January 18.
«Russia does not intend to accede to the NPT by. We believe that the complete elimination of nuclear weapons is only possible in the context of General and complete disarmament under conditions of equal and indivisible security for all, including for holders of nuclear weapons, as envisaged by the NPT (Treaty on the nonproliferation of nuclear weapons – approx. ed.)», – quotes the head of the Russian foreign Ministry RIA Novosti.
The NPT by was signed on 7 July 2017 at the headquarters of the UN representatives of 53 countries. The US, Russia, China and other nuclear powers did not sign the document.
