The statements of Israeli politicians, according to which the result of the Iranian intervention in Lebanon could be a return of the country of cedars in the stone age, forced the country’s leadership to hold an emergency meeting.
According to Iranian television channel Press TV, it will be held at the presidential Palace in Beirut on the morning of 6 February. In addition to President Michel Aoun, it will be attended by Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri and Parliament speaker Nabih Berri.
The representatives of the opposing parties and faiths to try to smooth things over, the last manifestation of which was the recent statements of foreign Affairs Minister Gibran Bassil. The Minister, who belongs to the same party as the President, called the head of the Parliament «hoodlum».
«Officially, the agenda of the meeting is open to public. But in fact, the main subject under discussion will be the situation on the southern border. Politicians are going to demonstrate the unity», — said the TV channel Press TV, a source close to the President of Lebanon.
Recall that Israel is very concerned about the construction in Lebanon and Syria, Iranian military facilities. According to media publications, this issue was discussed at negotiations of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
As stated following the negotiations, the visit to Israel of the Russian delegation headed by Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev was intended to prevent the attack of Lebanese territory.
However, the Israeli leadership does not hide that perceives the actions of the Islamic Republic of Iran as a casus belli. Most sharply on this issue supported the Minister of transport and intelligence Yisrael Katz threatened to return Lebanon to the stone age.
