Brazilian court approves the extradition to Israel of a former resident of the village of Itamar 46-year-old Joshua Elitzur, who was convicted in 2004 for the manslaughter of Palestinian Arabs, and fled from the country.
On Wednesday, August 9, Ynet reported, citing Brazilian newspaper O Globo.
In 2004, Yehoshua Elitzur, an immigrant from Germany, shot a Palestinian man Sail Alatau who did not obey his demand to stop the car. Despite the fact that he was accused of manslaughter, the court placed him under house arrest. Elitzur was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison. However, he managed to escape house arrest and travel to Germany, and from there went to another country.
In 2015, Elitzur was arrested in Sao Paulo Federal police of Brazil. The Israeli was arrested on a warrant of Interpol. He arrived in Brazil on forged documents.
Israel and Brazil signed an agreement on the extradition of criminals in 2009.
