According to radio station «Kan bet», Israel’s consulates abroad do not have the equipment necessary for the issuance of new biometric passports. In a news release radio station indicated that overseas Israelis who have expired passports, faced difficulties in obtaining new documents.
According to the radio, only recently, the interior Ministry of Israel started sending necessary equipment to the foreign mission of Israel.
June 1, Israel entered into force the Law on the inclusion of means and biometric identification data in identification documents and in a database. Amendments to this law, approved in 2009, were adopted in 2017.
Since the beginning of summer in all branches of the interior Ministry began issuing biometric documents. To get a passport («Darkon») or internal ID card («Teudat zeut») the old model is no longer possible.
MIA via SMS messages alerted the Israelis that to get new documents need to pre-order the queue on the website www.piba.gov.il. The report stated that in visiting the offices of the Ministry of interior there is no need of the citizens, the validity of the document which has not yet expired.
