Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends to announce the early primaries as head of «Likud», according to Israeli media.
According to published information, Netanyahu is interested in holding elections for the post of the party leader no later than February 2016. Official media quoted a statement from the office of the head of «Likud», according to which «Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is weighing such a possibility, but a final decision has not been made yet».
Surrounded by the heads of government stated that Netanyahu is «determined to carry out this step with the aim of stabilizing the situation in the party».
The head of the government coalition, tzahi Hanegbi (Likud) stated that it «supports any initiative that is aimed at stabilizing the situation in the party, and therefore to strengthening our chance to keep the confidence of the public».
Member of Knesset Mickey Zohar also supported this initiative.
In turn, the Minister of transport and exploration Yisrael Katz has subjected the idea of early primaries criticized. «Contrary to rumors appearing, I want to state unequivocally that the primaries in «litude» will be held on time, i.e. six months before the parliamentary elections,» said Katz, who is running for the post of head of the Central Committee of the «Likud».
Former interior Minister Gideon Saar also spoke against this idea: «I find it hard to believe that in the midst of a wave of terror, the day when terrorists struck in RA’anana, the Prime Minister playing games in a little policy,» said Saar.
