Knesset member from the SHAS party Michael Malkiel put forward a bill that requires companies manufacturing food products to indicate on the packaging the date of manufacture and expiry date on the Jewish calendar. According to the MP, «many citizens do not understand the foreign dates,» wrote on Sunday, July 30, the website Walla.
According to Malkiel recently, he has received numerous complaints from citizens, who can not understand the specified products on the dates and, consequently, to check whether expired their shelf life. The MP indicates that it may harm the health of consumers.
As the newspaper notes, in the past, the Knesset rejected a similar bill on the grounds that it will be «a huge burden for importers and manufacturers». However, Malkiel claims that this time he enlisted the support of many members of the Knesset and different ministries.
