MPs want to raise the minimum age of purchasing cigarettes to 21 years

20 members of the Knesset representing most of the factions of the coalition and the opposition filed a bill aimed at toughening of rules of sale of tobacco products.

Under the bill the age up to which the sale of tobacco products will be banned will be increased from 18 years to 21 years.

Earlier, the IDF announced that from January 1, 2018, will cease selling cigarettes on training bases and bases of courses of the young fighter, and after that most other bases.

According to the medical service of the IDF, during his service in the army begin to smoke, about 16.5% of conscripts. Another 26% start Smoking before the call.

The newspaper «Israel a-Yom» notes that the Minister of health Yaakov litzman opposes the bill, deeming it inappropriate in the light of other measures undertaken by his Ministry on this occasion.
