Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Hope Savchenko, arrested on 22 March on suspicion of plotting a coup, declared a hunger strike. During a court session on election of a preventive measure, she said, beginning to starve from Friday, reports TASS.
According to the Ukrainian UNIAN news Agency, a statement Savchenko was made during the meeting of the Shevchenko district court of Kiev.
Nadezhda Savchenko was detained by the security Service of Ukraine in the Verkhovna Rada on March 22. Earlier on Thursday the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine gave consent to the removal of the extra fractional Deputy of Hope Savchenko parliamentary immunity and bringing her to criminal liability.
According to the Prosecutor General, N. Savchenko and her supporters decided to commit a terrorist act in the Parliament and the government quarter in Kiev, making a plan of action and prepared weapons, including grenade launchers and mortars.
Savchenko admitted that he had taken from the Donbass weapons and drawing diagrams of the destruction of the government quarter in Kiev. But, she said, it was «surrealism and political provocation» in order to «show the authorities that they too are mortal».
Nadezhda Savchenko is accused of committing criminal offenses under part 1 of article 14 (preparation of a crime), part 2 of article 28 (Commission of crime by group of persons, group of persons by prior conspiracy, an organized group or a criminal organization), part 1. article 109 (Actions aimed at violent change or overthrow of the constitutional order or the seizure of state power), article 112 (an Encroachment on life state or the public figure), part 3 of article 258 (Terrorist act), part 1 of article 253-3 (creation of terrorist group or terrorist organization), part 1 article 263 (Illegal weapon handling, fighting supplies or explosives) UK of Ukraine. She faces about five years in prison to life imprisonment.
