The meeting of defence Ministers of NATO countries, held on Wednesday, February 10, in Brussels, approved the extension of the military presence of the Alliance in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black sea.
«We have agreed to expand naval presence of NATO in the Eastern Mediterranean and Black sea», — quotes RIA «news» words of the Secretary-General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg.
Earlier in the day it was reported that five warships of the Royal Navy of great Britain will be sent to the Baltic sea. The squadron is designed to show the States of Eastern Europe that the NATO bloc is ready to protect them from possible aggression from Russia.
«Thus we declare to the enemies that are ready to respond to any threats against our allies. In 2016 we pay special attention to the Baltic sea», – said the Minister of defence of the United Kingdom Michael Fallon.
Stoltenberg shortly before the meeting in Brussels said that the Alliance recognized the need to take real measures. «I call on Ministers to increase the presence on the Eastern border of the Alliance. We must strengthen collective security by demonstrating to the aggressor that we are not intimidated», he said.
