Thursday, October 22, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with German foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The meeting discussed the situation in the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Benjamin Netanyahu spoke about the incitement against Jews and the Jewish state are the driving force in the current wave of terror. He once again assured that Israel does not intend to change the status quo of the Temple mount.
«We have not caused and will not cause harm to the al-Aqsa mosque or any other Holy places. In fact, we are guardians of the Holy places. If you look at the middle East, where Shia and Sunni mosques are destroying each other and the world cultural heritage, not to mention the churches and synagogues, it is clear that we are the only guarantors of the integrity and security of the Holy places, freedom of access and freedom of worship,» said Benjamin Netanyahu.
Benjamin Netanyahu expressed hope that the international community will put pressure on Hamas, «the Islamic movement» and the Palestinian authority so that they stop spreading lies about Israel. «I’m not sure it would be easy to put pressure on Hamas, but I do know that it is necessary to demand from the Palestinian authority to stop incitement campaign. This will significantly help stop the current wave of terror and give us the opportunity to check out the other alternative,» Netanyahu was quoted by his press service.
Benjamin Netanyahu, who arrived in Germany the day before, met with high representative of the Union for foreign Affairs and security policy Federica Mogherini, U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry, held a joint press conference with Chancellor Angela Merkel.
