On Saturday, March 31, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented on the clashes that took place yesterday on the border with the Gaza strip. «We thank and salute the soldiers who guard our borders and allow citizens of Israel to celebrate the holiday in a relaxed atmosphere», — said the head of government. He added: «Israel remained firm and uncompromising in what concerns the protection of state sovereignty and security of citizens.»
The head of the unit «Zionist camp» AVI Gabay announced that expresses support «for the IDF soldiers guarding the borders of the state». Gabay added: «the Army was preparing for clashes in the vicinity of the separation fence, and I am confident that the soldiers did everything in their power to minimize the number of victims».
In turn, the head of MERETZ, Tamar Zandberg demanded an investigation into the circumstances of the collision, which killed 16 Palestinian Arabs. «Hard results and evidence, including the recorded photography, make inevitable investigation into the activities of the military. You must study the standing orders about opening of fire, as well as the level of political and military readiness to clashes. We have to understand all the circumstances of the incident, including in order to prevent escalation and a slide into a new spiral of violence,» said Sandberg. In response to her statements internal security Minister Gilad Erdan said: «the Main interest of Israel is to unite in opposition to terrorist organizations and to support the IDF».
Earlier, defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has also published a review of events on the border with Gaza: «Thanks to our soldiers we were able to quietly celebrate a Seder».
Lieberman responded to calls to establish a Commission to investigate actions of the military, writing that «hyenas, calling for this, was mistaken in thinking that Hamas organized the Woodstock, and we are there to give out flowers».
