The Chairman of the General Federation of trade unions («Histadrut») AVI Nissenkorn reported that the house of representatives voted to strike in the public sector, starting from Wednesday, December 23.
The strike was joined by the teachers Union and the organization of teachers of middle and high school students.
The status of a labor dispute was announced on November 25, after the Finance Ministry refused to satisfy the requirement Nissenkorn a significant increase of salaries of civil servants.
The leader of the trade Union demands to raise salaries by 11% for 5 years, which means an increase in government spending of 11 billion shekels a year. Thus Niangoran insists that salaries have been raised without preconditions, while negotiations to increase administrative flexibility in the management of staff, went separately.
The Ministry of Finance, in turn, accuse Niangoran to populist steps taken in light of the approaching election of the President of the «Histadrut».
It is expected that the strike will involve all ministries and agencies, municipalities, state-owned companies, hospitals (except physicians), the system of education. In particular, will not work the national insurance Institution, tax office, post office, airports and seaports, electricity company, border crossings, customs and so on.
