Obama ordered the CIA to prepare a hacking attack against Russia

The administration of U.S. President Barack Obama is weighing the possibility of «unprecedented covert operations in cyber space» against Russia in response to the hacking of computers of political organizations and a database of U.S. voters.

About it reports NBC, citing sources in U.S. intelligence.

As reported by TV channel «informed sources», the White house asked the CIA to develop a large-scale operation in the cyber space that would «put the Kremlin in an uncomfortable position.»

What kind of operation the CIA develops is unknown. The Agency said only that preparing means and selects the target for performing the assigned tasks. According to sources, the channel, the operation in the cyber space will help to expose the actions of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

Vice-President Joe Biden on October 14 said that the American administration is preparing a «message» for the President, and send a message at the most opportune time to cause maximum effect. While Biden expressed the hope that American citizens are not aware of the nature of the transaction.

Retired Admiral James Stavridis said the U.S. must strike at the capabilities of the Russian authorities to censor the Internet and expose the financial transactions of Vladimir Putin and his entourage, including the transfer of money offshore.

Sean Kanuck, who previously held a high post in the CIA, said the us response should be obvious, as publicly accusing Russia of hacker attacks, but not showing his retaliation, the United States will undermine the credibility of their capabilities and abilities.

It should be noted that one former CIA officer questioned the possibility «to put Putin in an awkward position» with cyber-attacks, and stressed that Russia is able to respond in kind to any strike by the United States in cyberspace. Another former CIA agent said that so far no one developed a hacking operation against Russia was never carried out.

Former Deputy CIA Director Michael Morrell expressed doubt that the US dares to attack the Russian Internet. He also added that the U.S. response should be visible to all.

Recall that recently the Director of national intelligence and the Department of homeland security United States formally accused Russia of involvement in hacking attacks against American political organizations and databases of voters. A spokesman for the White house Josh Ernest has promised a «proportional response».
