Thursday, February 18, in the South-East of the island of Taiwan recorded an earthquake of magnitude 5.0. This was followed by several secondary aftershocks with magnitude of up to 4.8. About victims or destructions were not reported.
Recall that an earthquake of magnitude of 6.4, occurred in Taiwan on 5 and 6 February, killed at least 116 people, nearly 500 injured and injuries. Most people were killed in the collapse of a 17-storey building «Waiguan» in Tainan. The contractors who built this house, was arrested. An investigation is underway.
Taiwan is in a seismically active zone of the Pacific ocean. Every year in this region occur on average three earthquakes with magnitude more than 6. In September 1999 an earthquake of magnitude 7.6 resulted in the deaths of 2.4 thousand people.
