In the night of Friday, July 21, near the South-Western coast of Turkey, an earthquake of magnitude 6.7.
According to the USGS, the epicenter of the earthquake, recorded at 01:31 local time, was located in the Aegean sea, 10.3 km South-East from the Turkish resort of Bodrum and 16.2 km North-East of the Greek island of KOs. The focus lies at a depth of 10 km under the seabed.
The earthquake in Turkey, no one was hurt, however, on the Greek island of KOs, two people died, several others were injured. According to Daily Sabah, the dead – Swedish citizen and a citizen of Turkey, the first of which was 27, the second – 39. The Turkish government sent to the island of KOs 250-seat vessel, on Board of which were expected to rise 200 Turkish tourists.
Israeli insurance company «Harel» and Passportcard sent to the island of KOs representatives on a special flight. They have to evacuate the Israelis who are the owners of insurance policies of these companies, and expressed a desire to return home. It is reported that if the plane will run out of space, they will be offered to Israeli citizens who are not customers of insurance companies «Harel» and Passportcard.
The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Israel said that among the victims of the earthquake on the Greek island of KOs no Israeli citizens.
At the moment, on the island there are about 600 Israeli tourists.
The Ministry recommends Israelis refrain from visiting the Islands soon.
The most destructive in recent years in Turkey there was an earthquake in Izmit (7.6 magnitude) in 1999 that killed more than 17 thousand people. In the same year in Judge earthquake (magnitude of 7.2) claimed the lives of nearly 900 people. Note that in 1999, Israel was one of the first to provide aid to Turkey after earthquake in search and rescue operations involved soldiers of the IDF.
