The plane with the Patriarch and entourage on Board on Wednesday morning flew to Waterloo island from Punta arenas (Chile), made a technical stop on the way from Paraguay. This is the most southern on the South American continent, the city is the starting point for expeditions to Antarctica.
The first in the history visit of the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church of Antarctica took place at the invitation of the head of the Russian Antarctic expedition Valery Lukin.
The official statement notes that Cyril after the service visited the premises of the station «Bellingshausen» and talked with members of the Russian expedition, as well as numerous other expeditions, including a polar Chilean, Chinese and other stations who came to the meeting.
