President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on Monday, September 25, signed the law «On education».
According to the presidential press service, the adoption of this law will allow Ukraine comprehensive educational reform. «This is one of the major reforms because no one other reform of the country’s future does not depend as educational» – quoted Poroshenko Agency UNIAN.
As the President noted, the law enhances the role of the Ukrainian language in the educational process. At the same time, he stressed the importance of strict observance in education humanitarian rights of the national minorities residing on the territory of the country.
«Ukraine has demonstrated and will continue to demonstrate such an attitude to the rights of national minorities, which is consistent with our international obligations, is in harmony with European standards and is a model for neighboring countries», – said Poroshenko.
As reminds Agency, the law «On education» passed by the Verkhovna Rada on September 5, Ukraine introduced a 12-year secondary education. The language of the educational process in educational institutions is the state language – Ukrainian.
In educational institutions, in accordance with the educational program can be taught one or more courses in two or more languages with the state language, English and other official languages of the European Union.
Persons belonging to indigenous peoples of Ukraine are guaranteed the right to study in the municipal institutions of preschool and General secondary education along with the state language on the language of the relevant indigenous people. This shall be realized through the creation of classes (groups) with education in the language of this people along with the state language.
In Poland, Romania, Hungary, Greece, Bulgaria expressed concern in connection with the provisions of this act the language of instruction of national minorities of Ukraine.
