President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko expressed regret over Russia’s decision on suspension of the Treaty on free trade zone with Ukraine. However, Kiev, according to him, is willing to pay this price for the European choice.
According to news Agency UNIAN, Poroshenko said at a joint press conference with President of the European Council Donald Tusk and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker today in Brussels.
«Unfortunately, today, President Putin signed a decree according to which he renounces free trade area within the CIS», – said Poroshenko.
As the President said, Ukraine understands what these restrictions from the Russian Federation for the Ukrainian economy. «We are ready to pay that price for our freedom and for the European choice», – he added.
Earlier it was reported that on 16 December President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on suspension from 1 January 2016 to the Treaty on free trade zone with Ukraine.
The reason for this step is named «exceptional circumstances affecting the interests and economic security of the Russian Federation», – stated in the message TASS.
The Agency reminds that on December 9 the Chairman of the government Dmitry Medvedev in interview to the Russian TV channels stated that since Ukraine is on the threshold of associate membership with the EU before January 1 preferential trade with her must end.
