In the first day of the academic year in higher educational institutions of Israel President Reuven Rivlin visited the University named after Ben-Gurion in the Negev.
The President spoke about the changes that Israeli society has undergone in recent decades. «Four main groups — secular, religious, ultra-Orthodox and the Arab community — are almost equal in numbers, and they are increasingly alienated from each other in their Outlook. Our system of school education in which representatives of each community isolated from each other only increases the divide. And only in the universities, there is a convergence between us. We will be able to achieve prosperity of Israel, to protect him, and to strengthen its position in the world market only if the new generation, that is, you learn in the University together to learn, work and promote their projects,» — said in his speech, Reuven Rivlin.
At the ceremony to mark the opening of the academic year the President of the University of the Negev Professor Rivka Carmi announced the establishment together with President Reuven Rivlin prize «Hope of Israel» will be annually awarded for academic, research or social activity groups, researchers and individuals. The annual premium will amount to 20 thousand shekels.
