Russian President Vladimir Putin, in an interview shown on Showtime, called «the demonization» of Joseph Stalin, one of the ways the «attack on the Soviet Union and Russia.» This is the Agency TASS.
«It seems to me that the excessive demonization of Stalin is one of the ways, one of the ways of attack on the Soviet Union and Russia. To show that today’s Russia bears some birthmarks of Stalinism. We all have some kind of birthmark, so what?», -said Vladimir Putin.
The Russian President also called Stalin a «complex historical figure» and «product of its time.»
Putin compared Stalin with Oliver Cromwell and Napoleon, noting that dictators who came to power in the Wake of the revolution, often become figures that people «worship».
In 2002, Putin called Stalin a dictator, but urged not to ignore his role in history, as it was during his stay in power, the USSR won the great Patriotic war.
