Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday, July 29, pardoned those convicted of treason women Sochi Annick Kesyan and Marina Janjgava. The corresponding decree will come into force in 10 days.
Janjgava was arrested in 2012. A year later, the Krasnodar regional court sentenced her to imprisonment for 12 years for an SMS message sent to a friend on the eve of the Georgian armed conflict in South Ossetia in 2008, the movement of military equipment in Sochi.
Kesyan was arrested in February 2014. In 2015 she was sentenced to eight years in prison on similar charges.
The FSB called for the message recipients ‘ officers of the Georgian special services, reports channel «Rain».
Protection Kesyan and Janjgava will continue to insist on the abolition of the sentence, told TASS the lawyer of the convicted Ivan Pavlov.
«Yes, my clients were pardoned, after 10 days they will be released, the lawyer said. Previously the protection was aimed to appeal to the Supreme court demanding the cancellation of the sentence, we will continue to insist on that.»
Protection of prisoners believes that the information that their clients are passed on via SMS, because of their vulnerability and accessibility could not be classified as a state secret.
