Putin’s spokesman denied any political motives in absentia arrest of Khodorkovsky

Accusations against former Yukos CEO Mikhail Khodorkovsky are not related to the fact that it claims to represent a political threat, and with the investigation of purely criminal offence.

On Wednesday, 23 December, said the President’s press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the request of journalists the words of Khodorkovsky, who believes that the Russian authorities see it as a political and economic threat, reports TASS.

According to Peskov, it is not about «fear of Putin», and «about the charges (Khodorkovsky – ed.) of involvement in a criminal offence».

«The charges pending our investigating authorities, this time not related to the economy. They relate to the participation in murder,» Peskov said. – I mean, this is pure criminality».

Earlier in the day it became known that Basmanny court of Moscow ruled in absentia arrest of Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the investigating authorities announced the businessman on the international wanted list, adding that the period of detention – two months will be counted from the moment of actual detention ECA-heads of YUKOS. Law enforcement agencies organized the international search Khodorkovsky at the level of the CIS countries and those States with which the Russian Federation concluded agreements on mutual extradition, but the Interpol in no hurry to join this process, according to NEWSru.com.
