Tuesday, 16 February, Rabbi Yeshayahu Pinto will begin to serve the sentence imposed by the district court of tel Aviv. Rabbi Pinto was sentenced to a year in prison for bribery and obstruction during the investigation.
Rabbi Pinto will serve his sentence in prison «Nitzan». It needs to be there no later than 13:00, and it is assumed that it will be accompanied by dozens of Chassidim.
On the eve of Rabbi Pinto, who heads the yeshiva «Shuv Israel» in Ashdod, gave the last lesson and said that at the time of his absence yeshivas will manage his son.
May 12, 2015 the district court of tel Aviv sentenced the Rabbi Yeshayahu Pinto to one year in prison and two years of probation. Besides, the court obliged the Pinto to pay a fine of 1 million shekels. The sentence was imposed under the pre-trial deal.
The court recognized Yeshayahu Pinto guilty in bribery to major General of police Ephraim Bracha, the amount of which was equivalent to about 400 thousand shekels, and obstructing justice. According to investigators, they talked about a payment for the transfer of information about the investigation that was conducted against Rabbi Pinto in the case of assignment of money from the Treasury of the organization, «the Chazon Yeshayahu».
The lawyers of Rabbi Pinto filed an appeal to the Supreme court, arguing that the state of health of their client requires leniency and the replacement of imprisonment with community service. The Supreme court dismissed the appeal.
