The Israeli railway company has unveiled the master plan for the development of the country’s Railways until 2040. The total cost of the program is 123,6 billion shekels.
In the framework of the master plan the company intends to build 53 new train station and to lay 400 kilometers of Railways, including underground tunnels for high speed trains.
According to the plan, by 2040, 60% of the population will be able an hour train ride to tel Aviv, and 72% can for 45 minutes to get to the nearest agglomeration center (tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem, beer Sheva).
Upon completion, 60% of the population will live less than 5 kilometers from the railway station, and 80% — less than 7 kilometers from the station.
Also, the company plans to launch high – speed trains (250 km/h), which will connect major cities without stopping at small stations and walk every 5-10 minutes. Conventional train (speed up to 160 km/h) will go every 15-20 minutes.
The development of the railway network involves the construction of the Eastern railway between Lod and ‘Afula’ Illit, as well as railway lines between Hadera and Arishem and along highway 431.
Railway line to Eilat, Arad, ., Tiberias and Kiryat Shmona in the plan is excluded because it is still awaiting final approval by the government, according to Haaretz.
