Seven Iraqi officials from various agencies have confirmed in an interview with Reuters the theft and expressed concern that radioactive material could fall into the hands of militants «Islamic state» and used for military purposes.
A radioactive substance was kept in a protective case the size of a laptop went missing in November from the store near the city of Basra in southern Iraq. The store is owned by an American company Weatherford serving the oil field.
Company representatives declined to comment on Reuters received data. Representatives of the Iraqi authorities also declined to comment on the pretext that the case concerns national security.
