The Agency Reuters citing its own sources in the Iranian leadership reports that the presidential election in the Islamic Republic of Iran, the overwhelming victory of incumbent President Hassan Rouhani.
According to this source, after counting of 93 percent of the ballots Rouhani gets 58% of votes, while, as his main rival, Ibrahim Raisi receiving the support of 38% of voters. In total, voted by about 40 million persons (more than 71% of those who had the right to vote).
Official election results have not yet been published. But if the Reuters information is true, then Rouhani won in the first round.
On election day in Iran was opened about 63 thousand polling stations. For the presidency fought four candidates: the incumbent President Hassan Rouhani, Ayatollah Ibrahim Raisi, former Vice President Mostafa Hashemi-Taba and the candidate of the conservatives Mostafa Agha Mirsalim. The favorites of the race were considered Hassan Rouhani and Ibrahim Raisi.
Simultaneously with presidential in Iran held elections for municipal councils and by-election to Parliament.
To ensure security on election day was involved about 300 thousand employees of law enforcement and military.
As recalled by RIA Novosti, according to the Iranian Constitution, the President is the second highest official after the spiritual leader of the Islamic Republic. He is responsible for the observance of the Constitution and is managed by the Executive authorities in all spheres of state administration, except those that are directly attributed to the conduct of the Supreme Ayatollah. The President is elected for four years by direct vote – no more than two consecutive terms.
