Romania adopted a law to compensate people who survived the Holocaust

The Romanian Parliament approved the law on the payment of financial compensation to the citizens who survived the Holocaust, according to Reuters.

According to the Deputy of Parliament and a representative of the Federation of Jewish communities of Romania Silviu Wechsler, which initiated the adoption of the law on compensation, the right to material aid will be provided to former prisoners of concentration camps, and those who during the war was in the ghetto, the forced labor detachments, were imprisoned or displaced for ethnic reasons.

«This law is a symbolic gesture that demonstrates respect for the suffering of the people,» said Wexler.

A law that comes into effect on 1 July this year, provides for monthly payments the rate of 400 lei (about $ 98) for each year of stay in a ghetto or concentration camp.
